DNS Belgium increases the price of the .be domain by one and a half euros per year. Inflation and European regulations have increased the costs.

DNS Belgium, manager of the Belgian top-level domain .be, confirms the price increase to Tweakers. The wholesale price will increase from 4 euros per year to 5.50 euros per year on January 1, 2025. The prices apply to registrars who sell domain names.

Whether the price of your website’s domain name increases depends on the registrar you purchased your domain name from. A registrar will purchase the domain from DNS Belgium at the wholesale price, but will determine for itself what price the domain will be resold at. If the purchase price increases, registrars are likely to pass these costs on to their customers.

Inflation and NIS2

It is the first time in almost ten years that DNS Belgium has increased the price of the .be domain. General Manager Philippe Bois explains to Tweakers that this is a necessary intervention due to ongoing inflation in order to “ensure financial stability and quality of services for the future”. The GDPR and the upcoming NIS2 legislation are also cited as reasons.

The new prices will come into effect on January 1, 2025. DNS Belgium adds that registrars were informed earlier.
