Qualcomm is launching two lighter variants of its Snapdragon X Plus processors aimed at cheaper laptops. A desktop chip is also in the works.

Chip developer Qualcomm is expanding its range of laptop processors with the X1P-46-100 and the X1P-42-100. Both chips fall under the Snapdragon X Plus banner and are equipped with eight processing cores instead of the usual ten. The cache memory of these new processors is also smaller, at 30 MB compared to 42 MB for all previously released chips.

The two new processors are named Snapdragon X Plus 8 corewhich covers the load well. The processing cores have a base clock of 3.4 GHz or 3.2 GHz, with a turbo boost for a single clock to 4 GHz or 3.4 GHz.

GPU and NPU

The GPU on board is also less powerful and is only intended to be used for screen control during office work. The NPU remains unchanged compared to the top models. This is necessary to maintain compatibility with Microsoft’s Copilot+ chips, but the impact on performance is not really noticeable for the user.

Qualcomm considers the two new processors to be ideal for entry-level laptops priced under 1,000 euros. In this price range, Qualcomm can score highly with its economical but powerful ARM chips.

Desktop

In the long term, Qualcomm also wants to penetrate the desktop world. According to PCWorld, chips are planned for normal desktops, mini desktops and eventually even desktop workstations. Qualcomm has not yet announced a specific launch date.
