The Wall Street Journal journalists have released a video in which they talk about the real experience of using Starlink satellite internet on an airplane.
Buffering, error messages, dropped connections. Regular airplane Wi-Fi sucks. But that’s about to change, thanks to new low-Earth orbit satellite technology. The WSJ’s Joanna Stern finds out why planes are still using old 3G tech and puts Elon Musk’s Starlink and Intelsat’s low-Earth orbit satellite technology to the test for The Wall Street Journal.
In general, journalists were pleasantly surprised when they noted the top speed of Starlink, as well as the fact that the latency of Elon Musk’s satellite internet is four times lower than that of the second-placed aircraft’s Wi-Fi system.
