In the run-up to its annual developer conference, Google is revealing new details about Android 13 operating system. From insider information, we can understand that special attention has been paid to the ability to simultaneously work two SIM cards on a device with a single eSIM chip.
Insiders report that Google has been working on dual SIM support using a single eSIM chip for a long time. To achieve this goal, Google specialists have developed multiple enabled profiles (MEP) technology, which allows one eSIM to connect to two operators at the same time.
A patent for this technology was obtained in 2020. According to unverified reports, support for two eSIMs is expected in the final version of Android 13. The patent says that MEP can be supported by both Android gadgets and iOS, macOS and Windows. It is likely that Google will want to license this technology to other companies.
The release of the Android 13 operating system is scheduled for May this year.
