There are people who diet in the summer, I am so late that I start when the summer is over. This is not my first time, I hope it will be my last, but now I have the help of an app to make the process less tedious.
I’ve tried a few apps in the past to track what I eat, but I’ve found that in most cases: It was either too simple or too complicated. Instead of tracking what I was eating and improving my nutrition, I felt like I was launching a rocket into orbit around the Earth. I’m now quite happy with a veteran app: MyFitnessPal.
This app helps me count calories and eat better
How many calories are in what I just ate? I have no idea, but luckily there are dozens of apps for that. The best ones also help you understand what those numbers mean and Calculate how many calories you should consume daily To achieve your weight loss goals.
That’s exactly what MyFitnessPal, a very old app, does: It was released in 2005, before Android came along, and was owned by Under Armour from 2015 to 2020. One of the things I liked the most was that Your first setup is pretty good.with a few questions and information, then you can dive right in. Or fat, depending on how you look at it.
Another thing I like about MyFitnessPal is that It’s primarily a calorie counting app with a few extrasCompared to other apps that throw so many functions at you from the start, they overwhelm me until I uninstall them and eat another hamburger tinged with tears of defeat.
The interface is very clear with a control panel where I can see the current status. save meals quickly and easily. As with all calorie-logging apps, the hardest part is figuring out what you’ve eaten, but with the added bonus that the database contains 14 million foods. This is still the hardest part, but at least you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find that many times what you’re looking for is actually there, just a search away.
The disadvantage of counting calories is that: The barcode scanner is a top-notch featureI must admit that it was something I didn’t like very much, because my intention was not to subscribe without testing the app enough. The price of the premium version (including the offer) is around 49.99 euros per year, but they do offer a trial month that I saved for later so I could test special functions like macro tracking or the aforementioned barcode scanner.
And the more I use MyFitnessPal, the deeper I delve into its menus and discover that: Does much more than just record food– Save your recipes or connect a bunch of third-party apps to record exercises, steps, and more. Compatible with Fitbit, Garmin, Withings, Strava, Google Fit, Samsung Health, Health Connect, and more.
September has just begun and with it my tenth attempt at changing my diet, but to maximize my chances of success I’m also trying Yazioanother popular calorie counting app. Yazio is great and has the advantage of making your experience much more personalized based on your profile. The downside is that creating this profile means answering an endless number of questions. I needed more motivation to create my profile than dieting.
Yazio There is a recipe sectionThis is very useful when you have control over what you eat, but as expected, to get the most out of it you have to go to the checkout and buy the Premium version. In this case, it costs 29.99 euros per year (on offer), excluding the trial period.
These apps made my job a lot easier Record what you eat and be more conscious But the real test will be whether I can maintain the routine of logging every meal for weeks. I’m crossing my fingers.
