Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein underwent emergency heart surgery on Monday after experiencing chest pains in a New York jail the night before, ABC News reported, citing anonymous sources.

Weinstein, 72, is set to appear in court this week, where prosecutors are presenting evidence to a New York grand jury as they work to bring a new indictment against him on sex crimes charges, ABC reports.

Weinstein, who denied having non-consensual sex with anyone, was found guilty of rape in February 2020.

A New York appeals court overturned the conviction in April, finding that Weinstein did not receive a fair trial because the judge improperly allowed women he was not formally accused of assaulting to testify.

According to a statement from Weinstein’s representatives to ABC, Weinstein suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, fluid in his heart and lungs, and recently contracted COVID and double pneumonia.

A representative for Weinstein did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
