Belgian company FN Herstal presented at an exhibition in Paris on Monday, a pistol FN306, which fires rubber bullets but cannot cause serious harm to people. This was reported by RTBF.

The gun includes a special device for target recognition. When a person’s face is visible in an electronic sight, a red light illuminates to warn the shooter that he or she may injure another person.

If the shooter still tries to pull the trigger, the locking system will engage and the gun cannot be fired. FN Herstal states that at the moment it is only a prototype weapon, so its mass production has not yet been established.

According to the RTBF, French police often used rubber bullet pistols to disperse “yellow vests” protests. Many protesters lost their sight when rubber bullets hit their eyes. Source
