“A lot of cities don’t want to talk about it because they’re embarrassed. In Springfield, the people who came here eat dogs, they eat cats, they eat the pets of the people who live there, and that’s what’s happening in our country, and it’s a disgrace,” the former president echoed the racist rhetoric.
The host himself ABC NewsDavid Muir quickly stepped in and corrected the former president:
“I just want to make this clear. You mentioned Springfield, Ohio, and ABC News He contacted the city manager. “He told us there were no credible reports of specific allegations of pets being harmed, injured or mistreated by individual immigrants,” he said.
The debate, the first between the two, began with questions about the state of the economy, but Trump quickly turned the conversation to immigration, falsely claiming there are “millions” of people who “flood” the United States.
As Trump spoke, Harris shook her head in disapproval and, addressing the camera and Americans watching the debate, said:
Tonight you will hear the same thing as always: a lot of lies, insults and disqualifications.
Harris said the Biden administration had to “clean up the mess left by Donald Trump” after four years in the White House, and blamed the former president for leaving the United States with “the highest unemployment since the Great Depression, the worst assault on our democracy since the Civil War” and “the worst public health epidemic in a century.”
In poll after poll, Americans have made it clear that the economy is their top concern heading into the November election.
Data show inflation has fallen significantly since it rose to 9.1% in June 2022, hitting a 40-year high.
However, according to the Consumer Price Index, Americans are now paying 20% more for goods and services than they did before the pandemic.
Addressing Americans’ concerns about the economy, Harris promised to achieve three million new homes built in four years and to restore the child tax credit so that Americans could get a tax break of up to $3,600 per child, in addition to offering a special $6,000 credit for new parents.

Meanwhile, Trump has promised to extend and expand the tax cuts that Republicans in Congress already passed in 2017 at his direction.
He also suggested that this would stimulate economic growth by deportation of millions of illegal immigrantsa measure that economists say could harm the labor market, and announced a sharp expansion of tariffs on almost all imported foreign goods.
In fact, much of his trade agenda is focused on China, proposing tariffs of up to 100% on Chinese goods.
Trump sees the taxes as a way to fund other tax cuts, reduce the deficit and even pay for child care, even though the tariffs could raise prices for consumers without generating the promised revenue. (EFE)
