Motorola continues its sales growth plan. You don’t want to have the most powerful mobile, but the most balanced and accessible create the best market response. In this regard, they presented their new Edge series, which, with the balance of a flagship, offers a mobile phone with a beautiful design, performance inside and a price that does not shock in 2024.

Design: minimalism and sophistication

Starting with the design section, Motorola was looking for something to differentiate itself, and in this case it bet on sustainability and offered a model with a metal back. vegan leather which is the one we analyzed. This material is not only pleasant to the touch, but also offers greater durability and resistance to fingerprints, making the smartphone flawless in everyday use. But most of all, it catches your attention with the sweet aroma it emits, which is released when you first open the box. I like this bet, because if you want, you can do without a cover, since this material is less sensitive to friction or scratches.

Curved edges made of aluminum and its thin profile make it even more Edge 50 Pro It fits comfortably in the hand and improves ergonomics without sacrificing style. All this in combination with the protocol IP68so it is submersible up to 1.5m (remember this is not covered by warranty) and has some dust resistance.

In front we find a display that covers 92% of the mobile and if we focus on it, we have a 6.7-inch P-OLED with a refresh rate of 144 Hzpeak brightness of 2,000 nits and HDR10+ compatibility. It is the first screen verified by Pantone, the brand dedicated to color that has verified the calibration and said it is correct to its standards. By default, it is calibrated to an intense setting, but we can change it to natural or light.

Performance: in search of power

Motorola Edge 50 Pro is equipped with a processor Snapdragon 8 Gen. This SoC (System on Chip) with not very demanding tasks, WhatsApp, Instagram… and in distributed and not intense periods we have a mobile phone that responds easily. The problem arises if we request several things at the same time in a short period of time, then we experience slight jerking and overheating which can be scary.

Has a Android 14 and four years of system updatesvery little bloatware, but some Motorola apps we’ll probably never use: Moto, an app to improve how you use and learn more about your mobile phone; Dynamic backgrounds, if you want to download more backgrounds with movement (and which consume more battery); Moto Secure to improve the security of our phone; Moto Unplugged to disconnect from it; Hello, with more information about Motorola; Games, which is another game download center in case Google Play isn’t enough; and Smart Connect for quick connection to other Motorola or Lenovo devices. Some games are also installed by default: Woodoku and Bubble Shooting.

Camera: balance between highlights and shadows

This is the first cell phone on the market that works with Pantone and strangely the photo colors are what I liked the least. Camera features are as follows:

  • 50-megapixel main camera, f/1.4 aperture, OIS.
  • 10-megapixel telephoto lens, f/2.0 aperture, OIS, triple optical zoom.
  • 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle f/2.2 camera.

While the 50MP main camera has the potential to capture detailed images, colors tend to be oversaturated in some situations, resulting in less natural photos than expected. In addition, when shooting portraits, there is a slight blurring around the edges of people, which can reduce the accuracy of images.

However, the photographic experience is not entirely negative. The camera app has AI-powered features that are quite useful. For example, when you’re taking a picture, the AI will suggest switching to a different photo mode that could improve the final result, such as switching to portrait mode when it detects a person in the scene. This intuitive guide is perfect for those who want to optimize their photos without requiring advanced knowledge.

Another positive point is the intelligent autofocus, which detects up to two faces in the scene and adjusts the focus to focus on them. This feature is especially useful when taking group or couple photos, ensuring that both faces are sharp and well defined in the resulting portrait.

In short, while the Motorola Edge 50 Pro’s camera has some inconsistencies in color fidelity and edge accuracy, the AI and autofocus tools improve the overall shooting experience and offer features that make it easier to get good shots.

Battery: good but not that good

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro has a battery of 4800 mAh which should easily last a day of use, but it doesn’t always last until the end. It’s true that the battery didn’t stay at 0 for any day, nor did I suffer blackouts, but almost every day around 11 at night I hit the low battery warning. The good thing is that they have improved fast charging and this will get you out of this problem in a few minutes, if you are at 15% you can reach 45% and use it a little more before you go to bed. Of course this charging will have to be with the original cable charger as it has wireless charging.

Conclusion: Style and utility

He Motorola Edge 50 Pro it costs €515 It is a mobile phone that is very comfortable to begin with, with a very attractive and immersive display. A good camera for social media and a battery you can’t ask for too much, but which will be finished in no time. Personally, I find other proposals more interesting, such as Google Pixel 7 Pro something cheaper €507 and with batteries 5000 mAh and with wireless charging.
