One of the most surprising features we saw live during the launch of the new Google phones was this: Gemini LiveGemini is the artificial intelligence of the American company that acts both as an application and now as an Android assistant, replacing the traditional Google Assistant. And now Gemini 1.5 is getting even better thanks to the evolution of language models such as Flash.

This allowed Google to launch a version optimized to communicate without delay as if it were a human: like this Talk Mode From ChatGPT, who amazed us during his presentation. Gemini Live initially required a Google One subscription, but now it’s suddenly free. And it’s starting to be available.

Gemini Live is now free

Although Gemini Live is initially only available in United States English, it also requires a payment. 21.99 euros per month. Although it includes access to Gemini Advanced, the Mountain View company’s most advanced artificial intelligence, it has a barrier to entry that could turn many users away.

In both cases, it brings Gemini’s intelligent capabilities to the chat: while the default mode takes a while, like any of these similar tools (ChatGPT too), the Live version speeds up its responses to let us know what we’re talking about. Chat with our Android smartphone.

Fortunately the official account Google Gemini on X (former Twitter) surprised everyone with a short announcement to celebrate:

In fact, Gemini Live has completely changed its reach, becoming one of the many free services that Google has put together, so Android users can use the talk mode No need for Google One AI Premium subscription.

The reasons for this change? They are unknown. and future only for android: Gemini doesn’t have an iOS app. It’s worth noting that iPhone users can use Gemini from the Google app, but they’re left out of the aforementioned talk mode.

What hasn’t changed is the language Gemini Live speaks– It remains a US English exclusive for now. No need for VPN access, although we don’t have access to it via Pixel at the moment. We’ll have to wait as always for the rollout to be complete. That’s not to say it’s not great news.
