The pricing changes ensure that services such as Docker Hub, Desktop, Trusted Content, Scout, Build Cloud, and Testcontainers Cloud are now covered under one subscription.
Previously, users had to make separate purchases for different features and add licenses for each component. This resulted in a cumbersome process. Docker wants to simplify this with the new pricing model.
“Now users get access to everything under one subscription plan,” Giri Sreenivas, chief product officer at Docker, told SiliconAngle. The change is designed to meet the needs of the company’s rapidly growing developer community, which now includes over 20 million active users.
Price and equipment adjustments
Docker offers several subscriptions, including Docker Personal, which will remain free. Docker Pro will increase from $5 to $9 per month and Docker Team will increase from $9 to $15 per month, both with an annual subscription. Docker Business will remain unchanged at $24 per month. A key aspect of the changes is the introduction of limits on requesting and storing container images on Docker Hub, a cloud-based service for managing and sharing those images.
According to Docker, only three percent of organizations will be affected by these restrictions, which are primarily aimed at managing Docker Hub usage more efficiently.
The new subscription plans and features will take effect on November 15 and will give users access to a broader range of Docker products with adjusted usage limits and service levels.
In addition to the pricing changes, Docker continues to expand its product offerings. For example, Testcontainers Cloud, which emerged from the acquisition of AtomicJar Inc., is now offered as standard for Pro, Team, and Business users. This tool simplifies testing workflows by minimizing the time required for setup and teardown. Docker also now offers unlimited continuous vulnerability assessments through Scout for Team and Business users. This tool provides a health score and helps users ensure security and regulatory compliance.
Docker is also introducing Insights Dashboards, a new back-end tool that gives developers insight into their most used container images and optimizes their development processes. This tool is currently available in preview for a select group of customers.
