That’s right: in the style of Microsoft Edge, Opera or Brave, Firefox also has “artificial intelligence” And even if you’re a Mozilla browser user, you might not have realized it because it’s a feature that isn’t deployed by default yet. However, it is very easy to activate it, so let’s see how.

Be careful, because this is not a state secret either, even if you are one of those users who do not pay attention to news when you receive an update, you will not find out. Namely, it all comes as part of Firefox 130, the latest version of the browser and, true to the usual trend, with little merit.

In fact, the most interesting thing about this release is still unfinished, which is why it is disabled by default. However, it is very easy to find: just open the application settings and notice a new section with the name Firefox Labs. “Try our experimental features! “They are under development and are evolving, which could affect the operation of Firefox,” it is highlighted when accessing.

Well, among those experimental features is «AI chatbot” which, when activated, “will add the chatbot of your choice to the sidebar, for quick access while browsing”. Simple as that. Once the box is checked, just choose the chatbot to use, including Anthropic Claude, ChatGPT, Google Gemini, HuggingChat and Le Chat Mistral.

With the exception of ChatGPT and HuggingChat, although it is optional for both, you will need to identify yourself to the service you will be using. In addition, you will see that the option “Show prompts when selecting text” is activated, but if it bothers you, you can disable it, because this option will still be available in the context menu (there are actually things to translate, which shows that the invention is “under construction”).

Be that as it may, these two options do the same thing and are the most interesting additional feature in the Shebang (adding a page to the Firefox sidebar is two clicks): start text selection in the chatbot in turn, the ability to “summarize, rewrite or quiz me”, which is a kind of challenge of questions related to the given subject.

It is true that there is still a lot of work to be done and that it is not very friendly for those who do not speak English well, but it is a very interesting add-on for Firefox. It is, as I already mentioned, almost the same as Microsoft Edge, Opera or Brave, and although there is nothing new about it, its usefulness is undeniable.

Mozilla, on the other hand, continues to work on its own AI, but while it arrives and doesn’t arrive… It’s better to chatbot manually.
