Google’s commitment to its Gemini platform is more than evident. It all started at the beginning of last year, as you probably remember, when it was unofficially revealed that Microsoft will soon introduce a new service based on OpenAI artificial intelligence, which will be integrated into Bing and Edge. The day before the new Bing became official, which we’ve known about for months, the search engine also marked its own milestone by announcing Bard.

However, during part of 2023 in this area Google has been somewhat in the wake of other tech companiesespecially Microsoft and OpenAI. However, there were two key moments in reducing distances in this sense. The first occurred in May during the Google I/O 2023 celebrations, and the second occurred in the latter part of the year, when a new model was introduced and then there was a name change that both shared.

At the Pixel 9 launch, Google also showed Gemini Live, an assistant with a conversational mode similar to the one shown by OpenAI, which was, yes, initially only available in English in the United States and only for paid Gemini accounts. However, as the technology company announced, Access to Gemini Live has begun to open for free accounts that use the Gemini app for Android.

So far yes it seems to be a progressive deployment and also this conversational mode for now it continues to be restricted exclusively to use in Englishalthough Google has previously expressed its intention to add new languages ​​in the future, among which we understand that Spanish is on the priority list.

As we already appreciated when introducing the GPT-4o, we again encounter the design of an assistant that reminds us of the movie Her, and again we have to remember that the technology still has a lot to develope to come close to what was seen in Spike Jonze’s film. However, a conversational mode like this is undoubtedly an important step forward in this direction.
