Cybersecurity company C/side has raised $6 million in a new investment round to accelerate the development of tools that monitor and secure third-party scripts in browsers.

The investment round was led by Uncork Capital, with participation from Mantis VC, Scribble Ventures, Roar Ventures and PrimeSet. This brings C/side’s total funding to $7.7 million, following a previous pre-seed round earlier this year.

Third-party scripts are a solution commonly used by developers to quickly add additional functionality to websites, such as advertising, analytics tracking, or social media integration. These scripts are often written by external parties and can contain vulnerabilities. When these scripts are updated without the knowledge of the companies using them, hackers can exploit new security vulnerabilities. This could lead to data theft or tampering with website content.

C/side focuses on securing these scripts with an advanced proxy service and an AI-powered detection system. These tools detect and neutralize malicious scripts in real-time and can also improve website performance by optimizing script execution.

Increasing threat

The company points to recent cyberattacks to illustrate the seriousness of this threat. For example, after a Chinese company took over the web domain Polyfill.io, around 100,000 websites became vulnerable. A bug in the script code allowed mobile devices to be infected with malware. Simon Wijckmans, CEO of C/side, points to such examples to illustrate how quickly this attack method is evolving.

With the new funding, C/side plans to further develop its product and expand its customer support, sales and marketing teams. Companies can already use a free version of the platform, with expanded subscription options planned in the near future.
