Apple announced iOS 18 at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2024 held in June of this year. The distribution of firmware for compatible smartphones began yesterday. The new iPhone 16 series, which will go on sale from September 20, will come pre-installed iOS 18.
iOS 18 from Apple It comes with a set of artificial intelligence features collectively referred to as Apple Intelligence. For example, iOS 18 offers new ways to type, create images, and interact with Siri. The integration of AI models allows users to rewrite, correct, and summarize text in apps like Mail and Notes. There’s also Image Playground, which can create images based on simple text prompts.
With the integration of Apple Intelligence, Siri has become smarter and more context-aware. It can now perform basic photo editing and file management tasks on the user’s behalf. Apple prioritizes on-device processing with user privacy in mind, while more complex processing tasks are handled by ChatGPT.
Compatible iPhone models:
- iPhone 16 series (all models);
- iPhone 15 series (all models);
- iPhone 14 series (all models);
- iPhone 13 series (including mini, Pro, Pro Max);
- iPhone 12 series (including mini, Pro, Pro Max);
- iPhone 11 series (Pro, Pro Max);
- iPhone XS, XS Max, XR;
- iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation).
Apple Intelligence will only be available on models iPhone 15 Pro and later. Additionally, some Apple Intelligence features will only be available in future updates.
In addition to artificial intelligence features iOS 18 it also offers some customization features, such as the ability to reorder apps and widgets. A new Control Center lets users resize controls and create multiple screens for different functions. iOS 18 adds support for satellite messaging on iPhone 14 and newer models, allowing you to send and receive text messages without being connected to a cellular network or Wi-Fi.
