Microsoft Office 2024 LTSC is now available for organizations that never want to install updates or pay for a subscription.

Don’t feel like buying a Microsoft 365 subscription when you only need the Office suite? Maybe you need Office on a device that doesn’t even have an internet connection. For such situations, there is Office LTSC, short for Long-term service channel.

Microsoft is now making Microsoft Office 2024 LTSC available. Government agencies or volume licensed organizations can purchase this version of Office starting today with a one-time purchase. All customers can start using it starting October 1. The trial version was available starting April.

An LTSC version of Office contains all the features that Microsoft makes available today, frozen. You will not receive all the updates with new features that are introduced later with a Microsoft Office 2024 LTSC. Once it is installed, it will not be changed or updated.

It goes without saying that you won’t be able to benefit from Microsoft Copilot’s new AI features in this version of Office. For that, you’ll need a Microsoft 365 subscription that includes the Office suite. Things like mobile apps, web apps, or cloud storage aren’t included either.

In the announcement, Microsoft tries to entice organizations to subscribe by saying that after six months, a Microsoft 365 app will only need an internet connection for authentication to continue working. Nice try, surely?

Microsoft Office 2024 LTSC can count on five years of general support from Microsoft. After that, support expires. Purchasing additional extensions is not possible with LTSC versions. Those who want can then purchase the next LTSC version of Office. Office 2024 is compatible with Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 10 LTSC (2021 and 2019) and Windows Server 2022.
