IBM has announced the latest version of its DS8000 storage solution, designed specifically for IBM Z mainframe architectures.
The new DS8000 storage solution offers a high availability of 99.999999 percent, giving companies the confidence that their critical applications will continue to run with virtually no interruption. In conjunction with IBM Z’s Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex (GDPS), an alternative location can be switched within seconds in the event of a failure. For longer distances, full operations can be resumed within an hour.
In addition to high availability, IBM’s focus is on cybersecurity. The DS8000 has FIPS 140-3 certified security and offers, among other things, Safeguarded Copies, which enables companies to restore from secure recovery points in the event of a cyberattack. This is further supported by IBM Z Cyber Vault, an integrated solution for consistent data management and recovery.
Faster processing and more efficient storage
According to IBM, the DS8000’s performance has been improved thanks to technologies such as HyperLink with PCIe Gen4. Both offer 20 percent lower latency compared to the previous generation. This is especially important for applications that process high transaction volumes, such as in the airline and banking sectors. In addition, the new HPFE Gen 3 Flash Fence offers up to 73 percent more IOPS (input/output operations per second) for intensive transactions.
The new FlashCore 4 module doubles the storage capacity in the same physical space. This is accompanied by integrated compression and data encryption, which contributes to more efficient use of storage space and better security of the stored data.
Ready for the future
IBM emphasizes that the new DS8000 storage solution is ready to support the next generation of data-driven workloads, including AI and advanced analytics tools. Companies can easily scale storage capacity to meet growing data needs and optimize their infrastructure for the most demanding applications.
The IBM DS8000 will be available from October 25th.
