Xiaomi is gearing up to release HyperOS 2.0 with a potential release in October. Xiaomi fans are eagerly waiting for this update, but not every device will make it to the market. Only some models from Xiaomi and its sub-brands Redmi and Poco will receive the long-awaited HyperOS 2.0 update.
The Chinese brand has not officially made any statements about HyperOS 2.0. It has not even been announced that it is working on a new version of HyperOS, although it was recently confirmed by the discovery of traces of HyperOS 2.0 in the source code on Xiaomi’s official website.
If you own a Xiaomi device, check the list below to determine if it will receive the next major update, HyperOS 2.0.
The folks over at XiaomiTime have shared a list of Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco devices that are likely to receive HyperOS 2.0. This includes:
[Пристрої Xiaomi]
[Пристрої Redmi]
[Пристрої Poco]
This is an unofficial list based on firmware update policies and previous distribution patterns. If your device is not on the list, wait for the official list before planning to upgrade to a new phone.
Xiaomi hasn’t revealed the changes we’ll see in HyperOS 2.0, but we already have some details thanks to leaks. A new version of HyperOS could allow users to detect hidden cameras using Wi-Fi signals. If true, Xiaomi devices could have an advantage over their rivals when it comes to user privacy and personal security.
Some leaked screenshots have shown that HyperOS 2.0 could feature a revamped main settings page. It could offer a card-like experience instead of thinly-lined sections. This change will be well-received by Xiaomi fans as Xiaomi has been keeping the same design of its Settings app for almost a decade now.
The new settings homepage looks modern in the leaked images. This will not only provide better aesthetics but also smoother navigation and fluidity.
HyperOS 2.0 can allow up to 16GB of virtual memory; the default value is 6GB. Of course, not all Xiaomi devices can boast 16GB of virtual RAM due to limited hardware. So, it will most likely appear on high-end phones with enough memory.
Xiaomi is also said to be working on allowing users to disable the lock screen editor in HyperOS 2.0. For those who don’t know, the screen editor will be activated when you long-press an empty space on the lock screen. Those who don’t like it will likely be able to turn the feature off via the Settings app in HyperOS 2.0.
In addition to these changes, the upcoming HyperOS 2.0 is expected to have smoother animations, better performance, and privacy. You can also expect new AI features as all other smartphone brands are working to provide the best AI features and Xiaomi would not want to miss out on these features.
HyperOS 2.0 is just a few weeks away from launch. According to a recent leak, Xiaomi could start rolling out the feature to eligible devices as early as the second week of October. As you know, the latest flagship devices will be the first to join the group, followed by mid-range and budget devices.
