DJI has announced the launch of the Osmo Action 5 Pro, the latest version of its action camera line, which is advertised as “a new standard for action photography that captures every adventure from the sea to the mountains, under the sun or on the snow”.
DJI is well known for being the world’s largest seller of civilian drones, and we’ve reviewed some of their consumer models in the past. If you’ve ever worked with GoPro on action cameras, it was a long time ago own product line. And just as interesting as the Gen4 of the same series, which arrived in 2023 precisely to compete with models like the GoPro Hero 11 Black. Now comes the restoration.
The new version is based on a Latest generation 1/1.3″ sensor with 2.4μm pixel size and a dynamic range of 13.5 steps. According to DJI, this optics “make it the first action camera with specs that rival those of professional cameras”. Bigger words…
In any case, let’s just say it has integrated framing and target tracking, and can shoot in 10-bit D-Log M and allows for high-brightness viewing in HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma). You can also record 4K/60fps video in low light with high dynamic rangeto capture intricate details in dark areas without overexposing bright areas, improving overall image quality. It has a mode called “Super Night” which has noise reduction algorithms to compensate for darkness in very low light environments.
The new Osmo can operate at sea and depth up to 20 meters without case. It has an internal pressure gauge that records depth, duration and altitude data underwater to ensure user safety. The camera can be set to automatically start recording when submerged and stop when it surfaces and is EN13319 certified, meeting the globally recognized standards for diving accessories.
The camera has front and rear OLED touch screens tempered glass. They’re bigger than Gen4, with a 16% increase in screen-to-body ratio. They also improve brightness, up to 1000 nits, making recording easier.
In terms of autonomy, the Osmo Action 5 Pro can work up to 4 hours of continuous use on a single battery chargewhich is a big improvement over its predecessor. DJI explains this with the better energy efficiency of the 4nm processor, the larger capacity of the 1950 mAh battery and its own algorithm that optimizes energy saving. It also has fast charging, allowing you to achieve two hours of recording in just 15 minutes of charging with DJI’s 30W USB-C fast charger.
The camera is available in Spain from today at authorized distributors and on the DJI website in two versions, which include the following:
