With the launch of FRITZ!OS 7.8, AVM has once again demonstrated the importance of software and the value it can offer. This version of its well-known Linux-based operating system introduced a large number of improvements, which I already told you about in this article, and with FRITZ!OS 8 the German company raised the bar again.

Its official presentation took place during this year’s IFA, and AVM has finally shared more information about some of them the most important news that this new version will bring. In this article, I’ll tell you three great tweaks that will make a big difference and represent great value.

What is FRITZ!OS 8 and why is it important?

This is an update of the operating system used by AVM FRITZ!Box routers. It is important because it comes with more than 60 improvements, and because it’s completely free, which means that all users of a compatible FRITZ!Box router will be able to enjoy this new update as soon as it starts rolling out.

This deployment will be gradual, meaning it will gradually roll out to compatible devices. Availability date may also vary by country, but of course The wait will be worth it.

Three key improvements that take AVM to the top

On the one hand, we have the improvements that FRITZ!OS 8 brings at the interface level, and which will not only give it an important facelift, but also improve the user experience and simplify management, monitoring, and configuration tasks. What stands out is the new Internet monitor, which allows us to comprehensively monitor the use of our network by all connected devices.

With this new monitor we can compare data traffic devices connected to the network and we will have the necessary information to appropriately allocate the available bandwidth. The new view of Wi-Fi network usage also allows us to see when the network is being used the most, information that will also be very useful when managing network resources.

FRITZ!OS 8 allows us to do this assign names and icons which will make it much easier to identify different devices in both the main and guest networks and it will be much easier to get information regarding LAN connections between FRITZ!

Secondly, we have improvements at the level of configuration and use, among which we can highlight the simplification of the configuration process of any FRITZ!Box router. Now we can do this configuration through our mobile phone using the MyFRITZ application, which performs a completely self-managed process that is simple and intuitive. Just scan the QR code and the self-guided installation will do all the work.

Thirdly, performance and security improvementsallowing us to make the most of our internet connection speed in any usage scenario and enjoy a high degree of protection thanks to advanced features such as WireGuard VPN with IPv6.

AVM has confirmed that FRITZ!OS 8 is now available for FRITZ!Box 7590 AXand this will be added to other models later.
