US confirms bilateral cooperation with Sheinbaum

As part of the bilateral celebration of the independence of the United States and Mexico, representatives of both countries reaffirmed their commitment to bilateral cooperation and they highlighted the common challenges in security, migration and trade that have arisen since the new president came to power, Claudia Sheinbaumnext October 1st.

The event was attended by US Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar, who reaffirmed his country’s support for Mexico’s new president.

The celebration took place in Ciudad Juarez in northern Mexico, where officials from both sides of the border highlighted the high level of commercial exchange that takes place between the border city and El Paso, Texas, one of the the busiest two-way corridors the entire border between the two countries.

“Last year, 961,000 trucks crossed the international bridges in the El Paso sector, and this year, 811,000 trucks have crossed. Also, last year, 14.3 million passenger vehicles crossed the border, and this year, 11.5 million have crossed the border,” said Rafael Foley, the U.S. consul in Ciudad Juarez.

Besides trading, Migration was a central topic of conversation. Both governments acknowledge the impact that the migration phenomenon has had on their countries: “We also know that the migration that has so profoundly affected Paso, Juarez, the United States and Mexico, for the first time in North American history, We know that we will address the causes. “We agree on that,” Foley added.

The authorities of both countries agreed that despite the problems, relations between Mexico and the United States are strong and will continue to strengthen under the leadership of the new Mexican president, who expressed a willingness to work closely with Washington to resolve the most pressing issues on the bilateral agenda.

“I want to talk to you a little bit about this space and brag a little bit about the amazing consular team that works here in Ciudad Juarez. Last year, this team processed 65,000 resident visas. That’s 65,000 Mexicans who immigrated to the United States and are continuing their lives because of the work that was done in this consulate. “That’s the largest volume of resident immigrant visas in the world,” Ken Salazar said.

The event concluded with a call to continue building trust and cooperation between the two countries. Both Ken Salazar and Mexican officials agreed that despite challenges, ties between the United States and Mexico are fundamental to the region’s development and stability.
