The Microsoft Copilot key will soon be able to serve as a keyboard shortcut to launch other apps.
The latest Microsoft laptops feature the familiar Copilot key on the keyboard, which takes you to the Copilot app with a single keypress. According to a post on the Windows Insider blog, Microsoft is currently testing whether the key can also be configured. This means that Windows 11 users could also use the key to launch an app other than Copilot. Windows 11 beta testers can already try out this feature.

The Copilot button on the latest Microsoft laptops lets you navigate to the Copilot app instantly. Microsoft will soon offer the ability to configure the Copilot button to launch other apps as well. These other apps must be MSIX packaged and signed, indicating that the app meets security and privacy requirements to keep customers safe.
On devices that have the Copilot app installed, the Copilot key will launch the app automatically unless a user selects a different preference. This can be done via Institutions > personalization > Text input. Of course, this requires that your PC has a Copilot key, otherwise this setting has no effect. The Windows 11 Copilot key tweak is only available to beta testers today.
