40 years later Volkswagen stops production of the model Polo In Europe, the focus will be on more compact and affordable electric vehicles. Volkswagen has been building Polo models in Pamplona, Spain, since 1984. The Pamplona plant has produced more than 8.4 million Polos, which are among Europe’s best-selling cars.
According to the latest data from DataForce, Volkswagen Polo This year it became the eighth most popular subcompact car in Europe, with more than 90,100 models sold by August 2024.
The Pamplona plant is scheduled to begin production of two small electric crossovers in 2026. They will be built on a modified version of the Volkswagen MEB platform that underpins the current ID range, including the ID.4. Volkswagen has halted production of the Polo in Europe, but the model will continue to be sold in the region. However, production has been moved to a facility in Karieza, South Africa.
