QNAP adds Airgap+ to Hybrid Backup Sync to improve data security

QNAP has added the Airgap+ feature to its Hybrid Backup Sync (HBS) software. This new feature provides businesses with an additional layer of security for data backups, with quick restore options and ransomware protection.

QNAP has added the Airgap+ feature to its Hybrid Backup Sync software, providing better protection for business NAS systems against ransomware. Airgap+ creates a logical separation between backup and network, only allowing connections during the backup process. This results in faster backups and restores without the need for additional hardware. The feature is compatible with QNAP’s QHora routers and is available starting with HBS version 25.

Security layer of NAS systems

With Airgap+, QNAP introduces an air-gap backup feature that creates a logical separation between the NAS system and the backup destination. This is in line with the 3-2-1-1-0 backup strategy, where one backup copy remains offline to prevent ransomware attacks. The connection between the NAS devices is only temporarily allowed during the backup process and is completely disconnected outside of these times, which significantly reduces the likelihood of unauthorized access.

The feature works with QNAP’s QHora routers and offers several advantages over traditional backup methods such as LTO tape and cloud storage. For example, QNAP NAS supports 10/25/100GbE connections, which greatly improves the speed of backup and restore processes. This results in less downtime, which is important for businesses that rely on fast data recovery processes.

Easy to use

A key benefit of Airgap+ is its ease of use. Businesses can easily enable the feature through the Hybrid Backup Sync software settings. In addition, QNAP NAS supports expanding storage via hot swapping or migrating to a larger system, keeping the solution flexible for businesses with growing storage needs. Airgap+ also does not require additional hardware or complicated cabling, making maintenance easy.

The Airgap+ feature is compatible with QHora-321 and QHora-322 routers and is available in Hybrid Backup Sync version 25 and above, allowing companies to easily upgrade their existing backup infrastructure without major adjustments.
