The number of players on Steam has been growing since Valve launched its digital video game store. Although there are alternatives (some like GOG are excellent), there is no doubt that it has become the most important on the planet.

A new record of users on Steam occurred on September 22nd and grew to incredible 38,367,277. It should be clarified that these are users connected and not actually playing (the record is 12.5 million simultaneous players), but even so, this number is impressive and confirms the portal as one of the most popular sites. The trend is clear, upward, especially in the last decade.

Behind these numbers are all the usual “suspects”, such as top 10 most played on the platform and which include Counter-Strike 2 (nearly 2 million players), Dota 2, Banana and PUBG, in addition to the one that managed to break the previous record, Black Myth: Wukong. The list is completed by Satisfactory 1.0, Space Marine 2 and Deadlock itself.

Previous exclusives like God of War Ragnarok and Final Fantasy 16 launched on Steam for the first time last week, which certainly helped as well. Other big games like Diablo IV were trained on Steam in the previous weeks. And it all adds up, so the popularity of the platform continues to grow. Another section that Valve relies on to expand the use of your game store and services is Steam Deck. It was very well received, continues to sell at a good pace and is responsible for the new youth that portable consoles are experiencing.

And fall is coming… The last quarter of the year is usually profitable for sales of electronics and especially video games, as it approaches the Christmas season, the best of the year. And since the growth of players on Steam seems to be driven by the arrival of high-impact games, we should mention that we have several before the end of the year, and in October we will start the launch of a bestseller like Call of Duty. : Black Ops 6, with which for sure Steam crosses the 40 million connected mark.

And Steam for ARM, which we saw yesterday, is underway and intended to support the next generation of PCs. Everything still adds up for Valve to capitalize on its digital software business, the most important on the planet in terms of video games.
