Of the large number of games based on the Star Wars universe KOTOR (Knights of the Old Republic) is undoubtedly one of those that left the best memories to those who enjoyed it at the time (a group to which I also belong). Its sequel, Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords, was also very popular, although admittedly the rush to release was noticeable (two years after the original title) which meant it felt incomplete, despite it was very, very pleasant.

It left such a good impression that years after its first launch We have seen him make the leap to other platforms years later (first on Linux and macOS and later on Android and iOS, where its sequel also reached some time later) and there have been rumors of a possible remake for a long time. Not to mention projects like the unfortunately canceled Apeiron, which tried to rebuild KOTOR from scratch using Unreal Engine 4.

All that has changed when it was revealed in 2021 that Aspyr Media was working on a long-awaited remake. The news was received with joy by those of us who played it at the time, especially since the studio already had previous experience with the saga, having been responsible for its adaptation to Linux and macOS, and as a user of KOTOR and KOTOR II on Mac (for many years PC gaming). However, shortly after that, bad news (rumors in many cases, of course) started pouring in about delays, cancellations, etc. Some time later we learned that development was moving from Aspyr Media to Saber Interactive and then… well, I guess I don’t need to remind situation with the Embracer Group, right?

Once again the project seemed abandoned, but no, it seems there is light at the end of the tunnel. And as we read on IGN, Saber Interactive is currently focusing on the development of Star Wars KOTOR Remakeand the information is absolutely reliable, as it was Tim Willits, the CCO of the company, who confirmed it in an interview with the said medium. Of course, don’t expect more information, because there are none at the moment.

“We are currently focused on development. We look forward to sharing more when the time is right. There you go bro”, are the words quoted by the said medium to reactivate the anticipation of those of us who have been waiting like May water for this remake. The problem is that after so many years of waiting, it’s obviously impossible not to take these comments with some suspicion, since there have already been several instances where we knew it was in development. However, it will be time to pull out the optimism again and cross our fingers to see if this is the right time.
