The HP EliteBook The ideal breeding ground for AI applications.

Following the new Copilot+ PCs with AMD chip in the OmniBook series, there is now the HP EliteBook X G1a with an AMD Ryzen Pro on the new Zen 5 architecture.

The new AMD chips bring many improvements. They are baked on TSMC’s 4nm production line. Like previous Ryzen chips for the laptop, these chips have an NPU on board that is specialized for AI workloads. While the previous NPU was a real lightweight, this one has exceeded the 55 TOPS (Tera Operations per Second) mark.

The big news about this chip, however, is the lightning-fast 8000 Mbit/s RAM. The HP EliteBook X G1a can be configured up to 64 GB (LPDDR5x). A dual fan must keep the 40 watt TDP of the entire package cool.

The 14-inch screen (16:10 aspect ratio) can be configured with an LCD or OLED panel. There is no shortage of connectivity: 2x USB-C (40 Gbit/s), 1x USB-C (10 Gbit/s), 1x USB-A (10 Gbit/s), 1x HDMI (v2.1) and a headphone jack.

There is space for a 5-megapixel webcam above the screen. A USB-C charger is included in the delivery, which can deliver 100 watts of charging power. This is necessary to quickly charge the large 74.5 Wh battery.

The HP EliteBook X G1a will be available from December. Prices will be announced shortly before the launch date.

New ARM options

The HP EliteBook Ultra G1q, which has been available since this summer in the first wave of Copilot+ PCs with Qualcomm ARM chips, is getting a new variant. You can now opt for a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus chip, a cheaper alternative to the X Elite chip.

Be sure to read our in-depth analysis comparing these Qualcomm ARM chips to the traditional x86 chips from Intel and AMD, and the difference between the Plus and Elite chips.

In our opinion, it is better to opt for the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus chip. The difference in performance is hardly noticeable and it costs an average of 300 to 400 euros.

The new HP EliteBook Ultra G1q8 will be available soon as an alternative configuration. A suggested retail price has not yet been announced.
