SAG-AFTRA has included League of Legends in the ongoing strike by voice actors in the video game industry. On behalf of its more than 160,000 members, the union has filed an unfair labor practice complaint against Formosa Interactive, one of the ancillary studios involved with League of Legends.

Riot Games stressed in its statement on social media that League of Legends has no direct connection to this complaint. Riot Games spokesperson Joe Hixson told The Verge that the upcoming The World Championship tournament and the second season of Arcane will not be affected by this strike. because he stated that these projects have nothing to do with the subject.

Why did SAG-AFTRA oppose Formosa Interactive?

Formosa Interactive is a studio that provides services such as sound design, production, and voice-over to video game developers. SAG-AFTRA alleged that Formosa attempted to cancel a game after the strike began in July. When the attempt failed, Formosa reportedly decided to play the game. secretly transferred it to another company, which the union described as a “shell company” and usually worked only with non-union members.

As a result of these events, SAG-AFTRA filed a formal complaint with the National Labor Relations Board against Formosa Interactive. SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland stated that Formosa was engaging in unfair labor practices and that this situation was not right, and that any such action would be subject to the union’s response.

The strike first began after negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and video game publishers over artificial intelligence protections and other labor conditions stalled.
