NASA’s Perseverance spacecraft photographed a piece of thermal blanket on the Red Planet.
According to Ukrinform, the press service of the office reported excitement.
“My team noticed something unexpected: a piece of thermal blanket that, in their view, may have come from my launcher and helped me land (to Mars) in 2021,” – said in a statement.
This shiny piece of foil in the photo is stated to be part of a thermal blanket, a material used to control temperature.
“This is a surprise: my launcher crashed about 2 km away. Did this piece land here after that, or did the wind bring it here?” the press service added.
As Ukrinform reports, the Perseverance spacecraft was launched to Mars along with the Ingenuity helicopter as part of the NASA research mission on February 18, 2021.
One of its missions is to collect rock samples on Mars, which will be brought to Earth by a special joint mission of the European Space Agency and NASA.
