It must be said that the company has kept the basic design of the device, its second generation Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor, its 8 GB of RAM and its controllers, which is a good starting point.

The main reduction in specifications can be seen in the screens. The Quest 3 pairs two 2064 x 2208-pixel displays with a “4K+ Infinity Display” with 1218 pixels per inch. It has a refresh rate of 90 Hz, experimental support of 120 Hz and a field of view of up to 110 degrees.

The new screens drop their resolution to 1832 x 1920 pixels and field of view (FOV) to 96. It might not seem like it, but it’s usually pretty noticeable on this type of helmet. The Meta Quest 3S will be available from 299 dollars which will cost the version with 128 GB of storage capacity. Its launch will see a slight but significant modification to the top model and will only be available in a 512GB version and discounted to $499.

Is this Meta Quest 3S worth it? We think so. With the same Snapdragon XR Gen 2 processor and 8GB of RAM on both models, you should be able to run the same apps and games. Despite using a slightly smaller battery, if the autonomy is the same or more, so much the better. Lower storage capacity will be a matter of modifying what is installed. The only change for the worse that can change the user experience is the screens. It’s up to you.
