During a recent episode of Vandal Radio, new details about Nintendo’s upcoming console, the Switch 2, were revealed. Switch 2 is currently in the final stages of development and is expected to be introduced in March or April next year, according to Ruben Mercado, CEO of Blade, a company that produces accessories for the console.

Mercado confirmed that the new console will feature magnetic joysticks with a locking system to ensure a secure connection. While the exact design of the Joycons has yet to be confirmed, it’s likely to be different from previous models to match the new analog stick design.

Recently released photos of what is believed to be the original Nintendo Switch 2 show potential changes, including the aforementioned magnetic Joy-Cons and two USB-C ports. Nintendo is reportedly looking at alternatives for analog sticks, such as flat sticks or trackpads, to prevent dust ingress and increase durability.

The new model is expected to have an 8-inch screen and be slightly larger than the original Switch. Additionally, recent revelations in Switch firmware 18.0.0 suggest that Nintendo Switch 2 may support backwards compatibility. A new mount point labeled “Compatibility” can support cross-generation games and protect files from piracy.

While the price of the Switch 2 remains uncertain, estimates indicate that it may be between €400 and €500. This puts it higher than the original Switch, but lower than current-gen consoles.
