It’s not a surprise, is it? We already knew about Disney+ plans last summerbut it is still a bad news that will affect all the subscribers of this movie and series streaming service. Another blow to the world, the blow of this type of platforms that, after appearing in a season of fierce competition and excesses, make their users the ones who have to pay for them.

A time of excesswhich began with the expansion of this type of platform and culminated in the pandemic and the restrictions that triggered the consumption of content over the Internet (and thus, of course, the subscription of these services), shortly after it began to show a significant decline, which was reflected in disruptions, incomprehensible changes and thinning of catalogs and of course into what was called streamflation, which is nothing more than a significant increase in the monthly fees for these services.

In addition, these increases did not come alone, because we have seen the terms of the accounts come down. This means that in some services they allowed you to continue to pay more or less the same, but in exchange for picture and sound quality, the number of devices on which the content could be played at the same time was reduced, etc. And of course the most famous of the moves, the blow to Netflix shared accounts, yes, with the option contract further access.

It was a risky move, as was launching the plan with an ad, but at this point there’s no question that it worked out well. And of course, the rest of the platforms decided to go this route and announced similar plans. After tests limited to certain regions during the summer Disney+ has already launched its plan against shared accounts. Or more precisely against shared accounts that do not pass through cash.

More precisely, as we can read in the official communication on this matter, Disney+ opted for a system that reminds us a lot of Netflix, including how it works when the account owner or one of the account members logs in from another location. There is also an option to transfer associated profiles and make them the main profile of the new account. And of course, most importantly, the price of these extra subscriptions is 5.99 euros per month. Simultaneous playback on two or more devices will not be allowed on these accounts.

After Netflix’s move, it was expected that the rest of the services would aim to shrink their users’ bills in this way while also raising prices. All, yes, dressed up very obviously, so reading them almost feels like they’re doing us a favor. And then you’ll wonder why piracy is experiencing a second youth…
