After a major redesign of its major brand to become a Meta, it seems to be now Facebook’s own social network is preparing for a big changewhich, as the company’s directors declared, will try to compete with the current popularity of TikTok.

According to a document from a Facebook manager published by The Verge, the social network is currently working on a major overhaul of Facebook’s main font, which would strongly emphasize recommended content from sites, creators, and people you haven’t tracked yet. The goal is to turn Facebook into a “Discovery Engine” that would rely heavily on recommendations, similar to TikTok’s “For You” source.

Recommendations would mostly come from “offline” content, including Reels, and users would see fewer posts from friends and family in their feeds. The plan would also return Messenger’s inbox to Facebook in an effort to encourage users to share more content from the Discovery Engine.

However, there are still some questions as to whether this latest change could be the best solution for the company. And that’s because existing referral algorithms have previously been accused of promoting some articles and ads that promoted misinformation, a shortcoming that is already beginning to affect other platforms.

That’s why Tom Alison, the application’s director, said so after this change, they will introduce stricter rules for recommended contentwith the company changing its view of its obligation to limit “negative experiences”.

It is not clear how long it will take for Meta to implement these changes, although it is true that this is the case you can find some of them on Instagram todayso they would have part of the work done.
