Brazilian researcher and 3D designer Cicero Moraes, who specializes in computer reconstruction of the appearance of ancient people, recently presented his new work. This time he recreated the face of Pharaoh Amenhotep I, the second ruler of the XVIII dynasty of Ancient Egypt, known for his active construction activities.
Morais took data from a computed tomography scan of Amenhotep I’s skull, performed in 2021 by Cairo University radiology professor Sahar Salim and Egyptologist Zahi Hawass.
He then applied anatomical deformation of a digital copy of the pharaoh’s head and distribution of soft tissue thickness markers across the skull to recreate the face of the Ancient Egyptian ruler.
Topography data showed that Amenhotep died at the age of about 35, his height was about 167 centimeters, his teeth were in good condition and his hair was curly.
