Mobile gaming was extremely alive with the new era of portable consoles. There’s nothing better to play with, but they’re neither cheap nor versatile. The clearest alternatives come from smartphones, but also from electronic tablets. The 2024 Legion Y700 is aimed at gaming, although it can be used for other tasks that consoles can’t reach.

Legion is the “war brand” that Lenovo has chosen to sell its catalog of gaming devices. And it has everything you could be looking for, from desktops to laptops, including mobile phones, peripherals and even Legion Go consoles.

Tablets are less known but they also exist and here we have the latest version announced for China, but like the previous edition it will also be launched internationally, renamed the Legion Tab.

Lenovo keeps the basic design of the 2023 and mounts an LCD screen IPS with a diagonal of 8.8 incheswith a native resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and a refresh rate that has been increased to 165 Hz Its maximum brightness of 500 nits makes it easy to use in brighter outdoor environments.

Certainly the biggest novelty of this version is its new SoC Snapdragon 8 3rd generation. It is one of the best from Qualcomm for mobility and a good update, especially in graphics. The storage interface has also improved to UFS 4.0, as has the RAM to LPDDR5X.

Wireless connectivity is maintained Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5 (it wouldn’t hurt to jump to Wi-Fi 7), as well as cameras, 8MP front and 13MP rear. It has stereo speakers compatible with Dolby Atmos and two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C ports. The audio jack and memory card reader have been removed following the -bad- example of mobile phones.

The dual X-axis linear motors, crucial in games, have been improved and should now provide 30% more response. Also, the new vapor chamber offers additional cooling options and screen touch latency, which has been shortened for faster response.

Lenovo sells its gaming tablet in several versions depending on memory and storage. With 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0, the 2024 Legion Y700 is available in 500 dollarswith a special introductory price for early access reservations of $415.
