Google launched two new Chromebooks today. One of the new features on the devices is the “Quick Insert” button, which provides access to Google’s AI tools.
Pressing the “Quick Insert” key on the keyboard will bring up a menu with various options. For example, the generative AI writing assistant “Help Me Write” writes an email for you. Image generation is not yet available, but this option will be implemented in the future, according to The Verge.
The button also allows you to add today’s date to your document and view recently visited websites with one click. You can easily add gifs and emojis using the top line in the menu. The AI button replaces the previous launcher button and is therefore placed at the level of the Caps Lock button.
Google is investing heavily in AI with the Chromebook Plus series. This month, numerous AI tools are being added, such as “Help me read”, which can be used to summarize texts. Live Translate translates text from videos into more than 100 languages in real time. In addition, Recorder allows you to transcribe audio fragments.
Finally, Recap provides an overview of everything you did before closing the Chromebook. Recap also displays reminders for your next appointment and provides quick access to recently opened files.
With the exception of Recap, all of these tools are only available on a device that is Chromebook Plus certified. The “Quick Insert” button is initially only available on the Samsung Galaxy Notebook Plus (from $699), which was also announced today. At the same time, the Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11 (starting at $340) is also coming onto the market, but without a “Quick Insert” key on the keyboard. It is not yet known whether both devices will come to Europe and what the recommended retail price will be.
