NVIDIA took a big step in the artificial intelligence industry and introduced GPT-4 and Open source new artificial intelligence model that will compete with other giants introduced.
The company’s new model, NVLM-D-72B, a member of the large language model family called NVLM 1.0, has 72 billion parameters and shows remarkable performance on both visual and language tasks. Rather than keeping this model only in closed systems, NVIDIA makes the model weights and training code public, providing access to a broad audience of developers and researchers.
What can NVLM-D-72B do?
The NVLM-D-72B model can compete with leading models in visual language tasks. With its ability to analyze images, interpret texts and solve complex mathematical problems, the model excels at both visual and text-based tasks.
Also unlike other multimodal artificial intelligence models NVLM-D-72B was able to improve text performance after being trained on text tasks and improved accuracy on text-based benchmarks by 4.3%.
What makes NVLM-D-72B so important?
This move by NVIDIA also marks an important transition from closed systems to open source systems in the artificial intelligence industry. Thanks to this powerful model, researchers and smaller technology companies can now reach levels where large companies compete and contribute to innovative work. Furthermore, the hybrid multimodal processing techniques offered by the NVLM project may influence the future direction of artificial intelligence research.
Of course there are bad options.. It’s possible that this open source move by NVIDIA will come with some risks. As superior artificial intelligence models become more accessible, misuse and ethical concerns may also increase. This strategic move by NVIDIA seems to reveal how quickly not only the tech giants, but the entire industry will evolve.
