Users with more than five hundred folders have been having problems sending emails with Outlook for a long time. Microsoft is rolling out an update.

Microsoft has good news for Outlook users who collect folders like stamps. A bug in Outlook prevents users from sending emails with more than 500 folders. An update for this issue will be rolled out starting in October, although it will take until December to reach all users. The problem has existed for at least a year.

Five hundred folders

The limit on the number of leaflets was increased to over five hundred in 2019. Microsoft initially assumed that this problem was just caused by too many shared folders. However, this can also occur if your primary mailbox contains too many folders. Users affected by this error often see a message saying that their emails were not sent.

Microsoft expects to fix the problem in a preview update in early October. If the update doesn’t have too many problems, which is no easy task for Microsoft, the fix will be more widely available starting at the end of October. An update via the Enterprise channel will not be available until December.

Collapse folders

While waiting for the fix, Microsoft recommends users reduce the number of folders they have to a maximum of 450. This also makes your mailbox a little clearer. If you want to keep your five hundred folders, folding a few folders can also make a difference.
