Google is reportedly experimenting with a “blue checkmark” in its search results that indicates whether a site has been verified. A staff member at The Verge noticed this. As soon as he signed in to another Google account, the verification icon disappeared. This indicates that Google is still in the testing phase and this feature is currently only visible to some users.

Authentication function

Google is currently testing the “blue tick” for some users. This is a new verification feature in Google Search that shows whether a website is trustworthy or not. This would help users identify fraudulent websites faster. We don’t see the blue ticks yet, but Google says it’s currently in the experimental phase.

“We regularly experiment with features that help shoppers identify trusted businesses online, and we’re currently running a small experiment with checkmarks next to specific businesses on Google,” Google public affairs spokesperson Molly Shaheen told The Verge.

The Verge’s Jay Peters noticed the blue checkmark next to the official website links for Microsoft, Meta, Epic Games, Apple, Amazon and HP. If you hover over the check mark, you’ll see the following message: “Google’s signals indicate that this company is who it claims to be.” “This is demonstrated by things like website verification, merchant center data and manual reviews,” said Shaheen. It is not yet clear when this feature will be rolled out across the board.
