Meta adopts OpenAI’s text-to-video generator Sora with its own AI model: Meta Movie Gen.

Meta introduces a new generative AI model that allows users to create videos based on a text prompt. Movie Gen can also edit videos and generate audio. The company is competing with, among others, OpenAI’s Sora model, which can also convert text into video. Meta’s model is not yet publicly available. Meta says it is waiting for feedback from developers.

Meta Movie Gen

Meta presents its new AI model Meta Movie Gen. This model is capable of performing various tasks. You can generate videos and audio based on a text prompt. You can have audio created for a video you input or standalone audio. In addition, it is possible to edit or even personalize an existing video using text prompts.

However, there are some limitations associated with the model. Videos can be up to sixteen seconds long, with a frame rate of 16 frames per second and a maximum of 768 pixels. Audio files have a maximum length of 45 seconds. Meta publishes an article on its website with further details about the creation of the model.

Movie Gen appears to be an answer to OpenAI’s Sora model, which is also capable of generating videos from text prompts. Meta’s model is not currently publicly available. Meta says it wants to wait for feedback from developers. In addition, according to Meta, the model would have been trained on datasets with “licensed and publicly available data.”
