Last June, Google announced new functions focused on system security. Among them they also came Theft Detection Lock And Offline Device LockTwo new features that allow us to lock our device remotely in case of theft.

These new features are starting to roll out globally. As always with Android, the distribution is gradual, so it will reach all phones with Android 10 or above in the coming hours and days.

Theft Detection Lock. The first of the functions that started coming to Android has this name and is among the most curious ones. This feature allows the phone to automatically detect if it has been stolen from our hands.

If we are detected to be theft, the phone will be automatically blocked and access to our applications or data will not be allowed. According to Google, a new machine learning model is used for detection.

Offline Device Lock. This is the second automatic function that Google has prepared. In this way, the phone screen will automatically lock if the internet connection is lost for a long time – it is not specified when.

Remote Lock. As the name suggests, this function is something similar to what we can already do with the Find my device app. In case we cannot log in to Find My Device, we can lock our main phone from the settings of another Android phone.

These features are starting to reach all Android phones with version 10 and above in Europe. They will start appearing in the system settings list and you won’t need to do anything special to enable them other than configuring them from said menus.
