China claims that its massive Sky Eye telescope may have picked up a signal from a distant alien civilization, according to a recent and later remote report by Chinese scientists.
Astronomers at Beijing Pedagogical University have discovered “several possible cases of technological traces and extraterrestrial civilizations beyond Earth,” according to a report published Tuesday (June 14th) in Science and Technology Daily, the official journal of China’s Ministry of Science and Technology.
The signals were received by the world’s largest radio telescope, the five-hundred-metre China Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST), called the Celestial Eye. In 2019, Sky Eye began scanning deep space in search of radio signals that could indicate extraterrestrial life; Researchers looking at this data in 2020 said they found two suspicious narrowband, potentially artificial radio signals. Then, in 2022, another strange narrowband radio signal was discovered during a targeted study of known exoplanets, bringing the total to three. Source
