Intel has launched the Core Ultra 200S series a time of significant change in the desktop processor industrycharacterized by increasing demand for energy efficiency and advanced processing capabilities. With this new generation, Intel aims to regain its edge over its competitors and meet the expectations of the most demanding users, introducing key improvements in performance and efficiency.

Among the most notable new features is the Core Ultra 200S contain an integrated neural processing unit (NPU)designed to improve artificial intelligence applications. Another significant improvement is the integration of a new Xe-LPG GPUwhich doubles the graphics performance compared to previous generations. The processors are also optimized for lower power consumption, reducing power consumption and operating temperatures, making them more efficient for high-performance systems.

The Arrow Lake architecture in the Intel Core Ultra 200S processors maintains the hybrid approach we saw debut back in 12. a combination of Lion Cove cores (P cores) and Skymont (E cores).. The orchestrator, as you already know, is responsible for assigning high-demanding tasks to P-cores, while E-cores handle less demanding parallel processes and optimize overall system efficiency. The key lies in the refinement of the P cores, which have been restructured to increase their performance per clock (IPC), improving performance in both single-threaded and intensive multi-threaded tasks.

In this generation, Intel introduced improvements at the microarchitecture level in P-coressuch as optimizing the memory subsystem and using a wider out-of-order engine. In addition, the increase in per-core L2 cache (up to 3 MB) and shared L3 cache (up to 36 MB) provides more storage capacity for data close to the cores, resulting in lower latency and better performance when processing memory-intensive tasks. These improvements have a direct impact on the cores’ ability to execute more instructions per cycle, increasing efficiency per watt in high-demand scenarios.

Another of the most important changes is Removal of Hyper-Threading in the cores of Lion Cove. This decision responds to the need to improve energy efficiency and maximize the use of physical cores, which reduces power consumption overhead (additional administrative burden for distributing tasks between threads and coordinating access to shared resources) related to thread duplication in workloads that do not significantly benefit from concurrent multithreading. With this approach, Intel is trying to gain more control over power consumption under intensive workloads while improving the raw processing capacity of individual cores.
