The latest Windows 11 24H2 update appears to contain a bug that leaves almost 9GB of undeletable files.

The annual Windows 11 update has frustrated many users. Not only the dreaded blue screen that appeared en masse on the screens, but other problems were also discussed.

Now it turns out that when the Windows 11 24H2 update is installed, it also creates a huge cache folder that cannot be deleted. It takes up a whopping 8.63GB, which is a significant portion of all drives. Microsoft is aware of the issue, but is still waiting for a solution.

Cache upon installation

The Windows 11 24H2 update leaves a large (unwanted) package after installation. This update appears to leave a large cache folder that cannot be deleted. The folder is 8.63 GB in size, which spans a portion of all disks (but not the largest).

The cache itself is not the problem as this is a common occurrence every time you install Windows updates. It is intended as a temporary storage location for installation files. Under normal circumstances this can be removed once the update is complete, but that doesn’t seem to be working now.

Attempts have already been made by Windows Latest to clear the cache via the Control Panel. The deletion process goes smoothly, but the cache remains. Microsoft has been informed of the issue and is preparing a patch to resolve the issue. This would appear with the next Windows update. Until then, it is recommended not to reinstall Windows.
