Hashicorp improves ILM to help companies operate at scale

HashiCorp announced its latest Infrastructure Lifecycle Management (ILM) capabilities at HashiConf 2024 in Boston, with improvements to Terraform, Packer, Nomad and more.

The focus of these innovations is on simplifying infrastructure management and optimizing workflows for companies operating at scale.

Terraform Stacks in public beta

One of the biggest announcements was the HCP Terraform Stacks public beta. This new functionality helps companies scale their infrastructure faster and easier by combining multiple Terraform modules into a stack. This reduces the need for manual dependency management and enables the creation and modification of consistent infrastructures with a single action.

Additionally, Terraform Stacks provides the ability to manage Kubernetes workloads through a single configuration, reducing the complexity of Kubernetes deployments and reducing time to market. The new deferred changes feature helps deal with unknown values, making it easier to plan large-scale deployments.

Packer and Nomad bring improvements in access and GPU support

HCP Packer now provides advanced metadata insights into CI/CD pipelines, helping organizations identify infrastructure risks before they manifest. By introducing RBAC at the bucket level, teams can optimize access to specific buckets, creating a more secure image management environment.

Nomad, HashiCorp’s workload management tool, now supports Multi-Instance GPU (MIG), which is important for companies that use GPUs for demanding tasks such as machine learning and AI. This new functionality allows multiple users to share GPU resources, resulting in better utilization of expensive hardware.

With these new features, HashiCorp reiterates its commitment to making infrastructure management less complex and more secure. By providing automation and enhanced observability capabilities, it enables organizations to manage their cloud infrastructures at scale without sacrificing security or efficiency.
