Android 15 makes devices almost impossible to steal

With the release of Android 15, the security of devices running on this operating system will significantly increase. This applies to both Pixel smartphones and other devices running Android 10 and above. The main innovations include blocking when trying to disconnect from the network, blocking in remote mode and improved protection against factory reset.

The reasons why Google has specifically strengthened protection against physical theft of the device are clear. Losing your phone can be very stressful, especially when you consider how much information is stored on it. Photos, banking and personal data can fall into the hands of criminals. The update, which became available on October 15, offers new methods to protect the phone both during and before theft.

One of the main functions was the Theft Detection Lock, a locking system based on artificial intelligence. The function uses artificial intelligence to detect a theft attempt, analyzing various factors, including sharp fluctuations, for example, when the smartphone is taken away, and if unusual actions are detected, the screen is automatically locked so that the thief cannot access it. device. Google has started rolling out Anti-Theft Lock, including Android 10 and above.

Additionally, the Offline Device Lock function has been introduced, protecting the phone in case an attacker tries to disconnect the phone from the network to extract data or evade the “Find my device” option. If the phone remains offline for a long time, the screen locks. Another interesting function of Remote Lock allows you to quickly lock a stolen device in remote mode. The system will not only be able to block, but also detect the location and delete data.

Google also took care of security in general. You’ll now need to enter a PIN or passcode to change options like Find My Device. Repeated failed login attempts may be considered a theft attempt and the device will then be blocked. Finally, improved factory reset protection will make it harder for you to reset your phone without accessing your Google account. According to the company, this step will make the resale of stolen phones less profitable and at the same time protect the owners’ data.

Additionally, this year it plans to add an optional ID Check function that can be used for biometric authentication to access basic device settings, such as changing the PIN code or disabling anti-theft.
