Apple has announced the launch of iPad Mini 2024 or what is the same thing the eighth generation of its medium format electronic tablet.

It was sung. We already said that Apple will introduce the iPad Mini 2024 in October and here we have it. And it won’t be the latest hardware development from the Cupertino firm this fall, as we expect more like the MacBook Pro M4 or the Mac Mini M4 soon.

Apple has not renewed this model since 2021. Although iPad sales have declined (with a general decline), Apple continues to lead the tablet segment and is also interested in selling its best and most expensive version, the iPad Pro.

The new iPad mini repeats the basic design and touch screen (Liquid Retina) LCD 8.3-inch IPS with a resolution of 2266 x 1488 pixels native resolution, maximum brightness of 500 nits, wide support for the main color gamuts and support for the company’s optical pencils Apple Pencil and Apple Pencil Pro, which are sold separately with the tablet.

The main engine of the new tablet is new, and Apple A17 Pro SoCwith a 6-core CPU (two for performance and 4 for efficiency), a 5-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine (the name Apple gives to its NPUs). Apple says this chip offers a 30% increase in CPU performance and a 25% increase in graphics performance compared to the previous generation.

It also supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing and Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence platform introduced at this year’s WWDC developer conference. The initial set of Apple Intelligence features (still in beta) is only available in English, though the company plans to add more supported languages, features and devices soon.

Apple has also improved the camera system with a 12MP Ultra Wide lens (maximum 1080p) on the front and a 12MP rear lens with Smart HDR and 4K video capability. Other improvements come from connectivity, p WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. Let’s say cellular versions are compatible with network bands 5G sub-6 GHz and 4G LTE.

Stereo speakers, dual microphones, a Touch ID fingerprint sensor and a USB Type 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port with support for 20W charging and a data transfer rate of 10 GB/s complete the basic specifications.

Availability, version and price

iPad Mini 2024 pre-installs the new iPadOS 18 operating system and is distributed in four color versions: blue, purple, star white and space gray.

It can now be reserved on the Apple web portal in one of the available versions (Wi-Fi) depending on storage capacity and at the following prices:

• 128GB: 599 euros.
• 256 GB: 729 euros.
• 512 GB: 979 euros.
