Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi demonstrated his willingness to offer a “strong response” to Israel in the event of new attacks on Iranian territory, as explained during a telephone conversation with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

This is how he spoke about possible attack by the Israeli army in response to Iran’s October 1 missile launch, which was in response to the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and then-Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, both of which were blamed on Israel.

Araqchi, who discussed with Guterres the latest developments in the region, where tensions continue to rise, deplored the “catastrophic humanitarian situation caused by the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip.” and the aggression of the Zionist regime in Lebanon,” in connection with which he asked the UN chief to use “all opportunities at his disposal to put an end to these crimes and send humanitarian assistance” to both territories.

In addition, he emphasized that Iran is making “every effort to protect peace and security in the region” and stressed that Israel, as well as the United States, its “main partner,” are ultimately responsible for “spreading instability in the region,” according to a Foreign Office statement.

Guterres, on the contrary, expressed concern about rising tensions in the Middle East following “continued Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon” and stressed the importance of achieving “a political solution that will end the war, as well as the need to provide assistance to those affected and displaced.”

In this sense, stressed the importance of protecting Lebanese sovereignty and emphasized the role of UN peacekeeping forces on the border between both countries, which “have come under threat in recent days.”
