Elon Musk’s company has a new dispute with authorities. Another local regulatory agency has begun to put a stick in SpaceX’s gears — the California Coastal Commission. The commission rejected SpaceX’s request to increase the number of Falcon 9 rocket launches from 36 to 50 from Vandenberg Space Force base in Santa Barbara County. The reason for the rejection was Elon Musk’s unacceptable activity on the X network.
The commission’s rejection put even the military, which made the request on behalf of the SpaceX company, into a deadlock. “Incredibly inappropriate. What I post on this platform has nothing to do with the California Coastal Commission!”, Musk was furious because of him. There, Elon Musk promised to sue the Commission. And it happened the other day (he intended to do it on Tuesday, Monday was a day off).
Incredibly inappropriate. What I share on this platform has nothing to do with a “coastal commission” in California!
A lawsuit is being filed against them on Monday for violating the First Amendment. https://t.co/bDgFPTdNal

SpaceX’s lawsuit documents the company’s request to synchronize its cooperation with the US Space Force (the launch of Falcon 9 rockets) with federal programs. This would take the California Coastal Commission out of the equation if SpaceX needs to expand its launch schedule. Meanwhile, the Commission reached an internal conclusion that SpaceX mainly serves its commercial interests (see the deployment of the Starlink network) and has a very indirect relationship with federal programs.
By a vote of six to four, the commission rejected increasing the number of Falcon 9 launches from 36 to 50 this year. Later, commenting on this issue, some of those who voted against explained their situation by Elon Musk’s inappropriate public behavior, problems with safety equipment at the company, and concerns about the ecology of the California coast.
