Europe Security NIS2

Belgium is one of the few European member states that managed to implement the NIS2 regulation into national law in a timely manner. Apart from Belgium, only Croatia is on time.

The time has come: The NIS2 law officially comes into force today. This means that the deadline for the member states to implement the legal framework of the European Union into national law has expired. Belgium met the deadline, which is rather an exception in Europe.

The European Union provides an overview of how far the Member States are in implementing the NIS Regulation into their own law. Besides Belgium, we see that only Croatia managed to implement the law into local law in a timely manner. All other countries are still busy. For example, Tweakers knows that the Netherlands will not have completed its homework until the third quarter of 2025.

Deadline missed

The guidelines for NIS2 were issued by the European Union at the end of 2022. This is just the starting signal for an entire legal and administrative process to adapt the European framework to binding rules at national level. Two years later, many countries are not yet ready for NIS2, even though the deadline has now officially passed.

Once the legal framework for NIS2 is developed, it is still up to companies to apply the rules. According to a recent study by Veeam, the problem also exists. Two out of three companies fear that they will not be able to meet the deadline.
